Legend took home the Lumiere award for best 3D scene of the year at the 2016 Advanced Imaging Society’s Creative Arts Awards for its conversion work on the high wire walk 110 stories up across New York’s World Trade Center. Working with legendary filmmaker Robert Zemeckis, Legend3D took 3D to new heights in this critically acclaimed film that gives “audiences a thrilling 3D, all-angles view of an experience that, until now, only one man on Earth to could have claimed to live” (Variety).
Based on the film Crimson Peak, this chilling VR experience will take you inside Allerdale Hall: a gothic mansion where nothing is as it seems. Legend’s first all CG VR production was created in collaboration with Legendary Pictures’ VR and marketing teams, Mr.X (who provided vfx on the feature film), and of course, director Guillermo Del Toro. Legend worked with director Gil Kenan on VFX work in the frightening retelling of the classic horror tale. For VFX work, Legend did extensive rig removal and a CG sign replacement.
In the first 3D installment of the Divergent film series, Legend3D and stereo supervisor Scott Willman helped realize director Robert Schwentke’s narrative vision of a dystopia that draws the audiences deep in the psyche of Triss. Naturalistic 3D and immersive, engaging VFX storytelling work hand-in-hand to create the final result which has been reviewed as “classy, slick stereography.”
In our fifth 4D collaboration with Sony/Columbia pictures, and partnering with stereo supervisor Ed. W. Marsh and acclaimed director Marc Webb, Legend3D designed and completed the 3D conversion of over 132 minutes of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”. Legend’s creative team was focused equally on a deep, high-impact 3D aesthetic that takes the audience swinging through New York’s high-rises while still creating the full natural characters and environments in the more intimate moments of the film, which we’ve become known for. Per Forbes magazine: “…the quality of the 3D is so high in this film –easily the best I’ve seen of any superhero movie to date, and some of the best overall in years…”
Working with Walt Disney Studios, Sony Imageworks and stereo supervisor Ed Marsh, Legend3D provided stereo compositing at plate prep work on over 11 minutes of natively shot material and also converted one establishing shot from 2d to 3D. In order to maintain maximum detail for the elements used in the final stereo composited, Legend3D established a 4k pipeline. The result is a vibrant 3D experience in the Magical Land of Oz, unlike anything created to date.
After providing the lion’s share of 3D conversion on the Smurfs 3D, it was only natural for Legend3D to be tasked with conversion of the full sequel. Expanding upon the work from the first feature, Legend3D was able to bring more depth and realism to this magical, blue universe of the Smurfs.
The entirety of Man of Steel was converted by Legend3D in direct collaboration with Zack Snyder and Jon “DJ” Desjardin. After its release, Man of Steel blasted through the record books, breaking the all-time box office record for June releases. Man of Steel hit the half-billion dollar mark in just over three weeks.
