For Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, Legend3d did more than just traditional 3d conversion. To aid the creative storytelling of this period piece, Legend3d also had to restore vintage films, creatively retime and colorize archival footage, and combine converted elements with native photography. Hugo went on to win 5 Academy Awards, two baftas, and a golden globe. Richard C. Orliss of time named it one of the top 10 best movies of 2011, saying “Scorsese’s Love Poem, rendered gorgeously in 3d, restores bot the reputation of an early pioneer an glory of movie history – the birth of a popular art form given new life through a master’s application of the coolest new techniques”.
