Barry Sandrew, Ph.D, Founder, Chief Creative Officer and Chief Technology Officer

Barry Sandrew, Ph.D founded Legend3D, Inc., and is an internationally recognized visual effects pioneer and digital imaging expert with more than 14 VFX patents and 23 years of feature film and TV experience. In 2001, he developed the Company’s technology for the original patented digital systems and processes for colorization which he then later utilized as the platform from which he created Legend3D’s proprietary 3D conversion software.  He was previously the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of American Film Technologies (AFT), a pioneer colorization company and utilizing his patented technology, AFT colorized more than 200 motion pictures, 170 television programs and 90 animated cartoons under his management, accounting for over 80% of colorized product worldwide. After leaving AFT, Dr. Sandrew was a founder of Lightspan, Inc. in 1993, one of the largest educational software companies in the U.S.  From 1978 to 1986, Dr. Sandrew was on the faculty of Harvard Medical School where he established three laboratories in neuroscience, including the first Neuroscience Imaging Laboratory in the Department of Radiology centering on MRI, CAT, and PET imaging of the brain.  He also served on the staff at Massachusetts General Hospital and Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Ian Jessel, President

Ian Jessel was appointed President of Legend3D in March 2012.  Mr. Jessel helps oversee the company's business operations, focusing on strengthening and expanding its relationships with major film studios and filmmakers while spearheading its expansion into Asia and Europe.  Prior to joining Legend3D, he was the Founding President of Miramax International, one of the industry's leading independent companies, which, during his tenure, acquired, produced and distributed films of class and distinction, winning 16 Oscars and 4 Palmes d'Or at Cannes.  Among the directors with whom he worked closely are Quentin Tarantino, Woody Allen, Rob Reiner, Peter Jackson, Jane Campion, David Lynch and Robert Altman.  Before his role at Miramax, Mr. Jessel has served as President and CEO of Nelson Entertainment, President of Spelling Films International and Vice-President of CBS Films.  Prior to re-locating to Los Angeles, Mr. Jessel was Managing Director of Lord Grade's ITC International in London, where he supervised the international distribution of Sophie's Choice, On Golden Pond, The Eagle Has Landed and The Muppet Movie.  An Oxford graduate, Mr.Jessel is a long-standing member of both the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the British Film Academy.  He speaks fluent French and German and is currently studying Mandarin.

Brian Robertson, Chief Executive Officer

Brian Robertson’s career path has extensively crossed over the television, film, theater and music industries. Through his production and management company, Mr. Robertson has produced over 30 live, televised performing arts specials, including the Golden Jubilee Gala for Queen Elizabeth, and over 50 theatrical productions, including the recent Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls as well as the long-running, London West End production of Dirty Dancing.  For many years, he represented the interests of the major record companies in Canada through his company and was inducted into the recording industry’s Hall of Fame.

He has also managed the Oscar Peterson Estate and produced the internationally-broadcast memorial concert for Mr. Peterson, which featured Quincy Jones, Nancy Wilson, Herbie Hancock and Stevie Wonder.

Tom Sinnott, Chief Operating Officer

Tom Sinnott joined Legend3D in 2010; previously he was VP/GM of Technicolor’s West Coast Digital Intermediate Facilities.  Mr. Sinnott ran his own Animation/VFX company in Chicago for 15 years before heading up Visual Effects Operations for Technicolor in Canada and was also responsible for the build-out, staffing and management of Technicolor Beijing, a VFX/DI joint venture in China. He brings to Legend3D his in-depth operations management experience in the creation and production of visual effects, animation and digital media. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Design from the Illinois Institute of Technology with graduate studies in Film and Animation and is a member of the Directors Guild of America.

Steve Wolkenstein, Chief Financial Officer

Steven Wolkenstein joined Legend3D in April 2010 and serves as Chief Financial Officer.  Mr. Wolkenstein has over 20 years of senior financial executive experience in domestic and international service-based and technology focused companies, and has specialized in rapidly growing and multiple location businesses.  His experience includes roles as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President - Finance with public and private companies, numerous mergers and acquisitions as well as full financial function responsibility for companies with personnel ranging in size from 100 to 3,000 and revenues from $50 - $300 million.  Mr. Wolkenstein holds a BSBA in Accounting from Drake University.

Susan Olney, Vice President of Operations

Susan Olney is co-founder of Legend Films and was instrumental in the launch of  the company when it first debuted its patented digital colorization process.  Hundreds of projects later, the company changed its name to Legend3D and shifted its focus to stereo conversion. Between 2009 and 2010, Ms. Olney orchestrated the expansion and training of the production staff from 40 to over 400 employees in San Diego, and from 120 to 850 employees in Legend3D’s Patna, India facility. During that period, Legend3D completed work on Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Shrek 1, Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third, as well as The Green Hornet.  Prior to working for the company, Ms. Olney spent 14 years in the multimedia industry.  She was key in the successful ramp up of two large scale publicly traded production studios in San Diego – American Film Technologies and The Lightspan Partnership Inc.  Ms. Olney holds unique skills and extensive experience in overall production management and large-scale production build-out.

Jeff Brownlee, Director of Human Resources

Jeff Brownlee joined Legend3D in February 2010 as Director, Human Resources.  Mr. Brownlee brings over 20 years of in-depth human resources knowledge as a result of his experience with various high technology and engineering companies.   At Legend3D, he is responsible for overseeing all of the functions within Human Resources including staffing, compensation, benefits administration and employee relations. 

 

Mr. Brownlee’s prior experience spans from managing human resources for venture capital backed start-ups to overseeing those for multi-national corporations.  His background includes multiple mergers and acquisitions as well as the completion of several international human resources assignments.  He received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Irvine, and his Master's Degree in Psychology from Pepperdine University.

Tony Baldridge, Stereoscopic Visual Effects Supervisor

 

Tony Baldridge has been actively involved in the R&D of Legend3D’s stereo conversion processes since its inception.  Most recently, he was the Stereoscopic Visual Effects Supervisor on several 3D leading conversion projects including 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon,' 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,' and 'Green Lantern.'  Most notably, he was responsible for being one of the primary liaisons between Industrial Light & Magic and Digital Domain to ensure visual effect shots were successfully completed on 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon'.   His previous projects include 'Alice in Wonderland', 'The Green Hornet', 'Priest'  and the 'Shrek' trilogy.  Since joining Legend3D in 2002, Mr. Baldridge has held various leadership positions within both the technical and creative departments as a Colorist, Compositing Artist, Utility Supervisor, Technical Director, Visual Effects Supervisor and Stereographer.  He is a graduate of the Art Institute of Phoenix, where he trained with cinematographer Greg Voigt and studied art and visual effects.

Jared Sandrew, Stereoscopic Visual Effects Supervisor

Jared Sandrew was instrumental in Legend3D’s stereo conversion work on Tim Burton’s 'Alice in Wonderland' and the 'Shrek' multi-picture 3D conversion project for DreamWorks Animation.  Most recently, he was the Stereoscopic Visual Effects Supervisor on several 3D leading conversion projects including 'The Green Hornet,' 'Priest,' 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,' 'Green Lantern,' and 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon.' Prior to joining Legend3D, Mr. Sandrew was a Senior Stereo Technical Director on “G-Force” for Sony Pictures Imageworks and has visual effects credits on several films including 'National Treasure: Book of Secrets,' “The Last Mimzy” and 'The League of Extraordinary Gentleman.'   Mr. Sandrew has gathered a great deal of extensive VFX experience as well in his roles serving as Compositor, Senior Technical Director and Artist while working at major FX houses such as The Orphanage, Asylum Visual Effects and Zoic.
